Like Gabrielle Union and Kim Kardashian, singer Kandi Burruss has decided to be very open about her struggles to conceive children and her decision to find a surrogate to have her child.

It has been about a month since Kandi and her husband, Todd Tucker, welcomed their adorable baby daughter, Blaze Tucker, with the help of their surrogate, Shadina Blunt.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star and Xscape singer recently shared a YouTube video where she spoke about the criticism and judgment she endured from family members who belittled her for not being able to carry her child.

The 43-year-old businesswoman confessed: “There was a moment where I felt guilty. I got a little teary-eyed because there was a family member of mine, they just kind of text me when they first found out I was thinking about a surrogate, and they were like, ‘I mean…why you wanna have a surrogate? Don’t you wanna just carry the baby by yourself?’ It was on text message. I replied and was like, ‘Well, I would if I could, but I had issues with delivering in my last pregnancy.’ They were like, ‘Don’t you want to be able to bond with your baby?’ They said some other stuff like, ‘Why wouldn’t you just get one of your family members to help you?’ It was just a lot, and I was just like, okay, family member [laughs]. ”

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage.  At least that is what most of us are taught, but no one ever shares that the journey to the baby carriage can come with sadness, doubts, and fertility obstacles.  My first daughter, Riley, was conceived and birthed into the world as easily as could be.  Little did I know that 13 years later when I wanted to continue this story, that I would be faced with the struggle of infertility due to non-cancerous fibroids. My pregnancy with Ace came with many complications, which is why our family decided to use a surrogate (pictured here!). When we looked into this I went through a series of emotions and questions like: how is this going to affect my bond with my child? what if the surrogate tries to keep my baby? what are others going to think? Will the baby share DNA with the surrogate from the pregnancy even though it is my eggs? Looking back I wish I had an app like @peanut. The entertainer explained: “She hurt my feelings. I don’t think she meant to hurt my feelings at the time. I love her to death, so I don’t think she purposely was trying to hurt my feelings, but you have to understand, some so many people just have issues with the whole idea of surrogacy. You have people like that who automatically have their thoughts on surrogacy, and they look negatively towards it.”

Kandi went on to say that she is happy with her decision and is in love with her infant daughter: “I have no regrets about the decision that we made,” she said. “It turned out to be a great thing for us. We got a new friend, too!”

Shadina has revealed that people negatively view surrogacy because it is something that they do not understand as yet.
